Twelve Hours

Lightning in Hove

I slept for 12 hours.

I’m sitting here, having a cup of tea and thinking about all the things that can be done in less time than I have just slept;  I went into labor and delivered both my daughters in less 12 hours; I was admitted to the hospital, had surgery on my foot and was back in my flat in less than 12 hours.  Flying from London to Miami only takes a 9.5 hours! Most people leave their homes, work an entire day and are sitting on their couch in less than 12 hours. (Hmmm? The exception to that one may be employees of American Express!)

It’s a really long time… 12 hours.

Apparently exhaustion, sickness, stress, worry and all the traveling around the past 4 weeks has finally caught up with me and my body’s natural response was to “sleep.”

There were lots of dreams (although I cant remember any of them), a fierce thunder and lightning storm that seemed to last forever and inserted itself into my dreams, two trips to the bathroom, one drink of water and the constant sound of rain hitting the window.

I awoke somewhat refreshed although still coughing!  But it’s the start of a brand new week. Renewed hopes and expectations. A fresh start; a new beginning. Today is the last treatment in the first of three (or four) chemo cycles and all is right with the world.

Have a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious day and don’t forget to give someone you love a huge hug… and tell them you love them!

  1. Interesting reflections on what can be done in 12 hours but it seems you me your body did exactly what it needed to with those hours, so next time you are musing I what else can be done in 12 hours you can now add “some healing” to your list :). I hope today’s session went as well as it can, and as always you, and your brave family are in our thoughts xx
